Gamekeeper Turned Poacher

I worked for Scottish and Newcastle in estates management so I knew Fleurets' reputation and had been impressed with their professional services, across the leisure and hospitality industry.

When the opportunity arrived, I switched over: is that poacher turned gamekeeper or the other way around? I've been here six years now. I see the inside of a huge number of licensed premises, easily one for every day of the year.

When I'm valuing premises - whether for capital values, rent reviews or lease renewals, for tenants, landlords or banks - I don't just see that place.

I take in half a dozen comparable premises to understand the competition and the local business dynamic. That's great when you're talking about idyllic country pubs - a real perk. Friday nights in city centre nightclubs are a different story - I'm 30 now, so getting a bit old for that particular scene!

Having worked on the 'other side' is a huge advantage, as it helps me understand the business priorities of my clients.
