'The Tavern on St John's' to open in Bury St Edmunds

The Snug Bar, situated on St Johns Street in Bury St Edmunds, has been sold and will re-open as The Tavern on St John's on the 24th May, following a complete refurbishment.

The new co-owner, Craig Nichols, proudly announced: "At The Tavern on St John's, we want to create a relaxed, friendly, classic pub atmosphere. So, to go along with that, we felt the ideal food offering would be a fun and informal menu that encourages the idea of sharing. Small plates of wonderful, fresh, home cooked dishes perfect for mixing and matching between friends. You will be able to visit the Tavern and never have the same meal twice."

The sale was mediated by Gareth Hatton of leisure property specialist Fleurets' East office, and marks another successful transaction in Bury St Edmunds. Hatton commented: "I am delighted to have had the opportunity of selling this wonderful bar and restaurant to another successful local and independent operator. They have some great plans for the premises and have already commenced a refurbishment that will see this notable property taken to the next level. I wish Craig and his team the very best of luck with their new venture, which I am sure will be a hit with both locals and visiting tourists to the town."

The unit has an ideal high street location which benefits from being surrounded by a number of independent retailers, restaurants and bars. Boasting a ground floor space of approximately 3,000 sq ft and 100 covers the premises provides plenty of space for both a restaurant and bar area.

The property's leasehold was sold for an undisclosed sum, but marketed off a guide price of £150,000 + VAT.
