Young's to acquire almost all Lucky Onion sites

London-based pub operator Young's is set to take ownership of six of the Lucky Onion group's seven sites. The Lucky Onion group, which is owned by Superdry clothing brand founder Julian Dunkerton and operates pubs and hotels in the Cotswolds, has agreed to sell most of its portfolio to Young's but it will not include the company's flagship No.131 bar, restaurant and boutique hotel in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, advises Morning Advertiser.

Hospitality Rising launches £5m campaign for talent

The Hospitality Rising campaign has won official support from the Hospitality & Tourism Sector Skills Board to be the strategic face of the industry's biggest ever recruitment campaign, as latest figures show there are 400,000 vacancies across the sector. The endorsement has made Hospitality Rising the official industry response to the recruitment crisis, backed by UKHospitality, the British Institute of Innkeeping and the British Beer and Pub Association. The campaign has been spearheaded by marketer Mark McCulloch, reports The Caterer. Hospitality Rising was formed last year by McCulloch to provide a solution to the recruitment challenges facing the industry by encouraging individual operators and suppliers to collectively change the perception of hospitality.

Hospitality experiencing lower turnover than expected

Almost two-thirds (63%) of accommodation and foodservice sector businesses reported lower-than-expected turnover in the two weeks to 23 January 2022, according to the latest Office for National Statistics data. Just over 18% reported that turnover has not been affected, while only 8% reported that turnover was up on normal expectations, reports Big Hospitality.

Greene King launches campaign to reduce cask ale waste

Greene King has launched the 'Magic Pints Initiative', in partnership with wastage saving app Too Good To Go, in a bid to save thousands of surplus pints of cask ale from being wasted. The 'Magic Pints' scheme enables customers to purchase a 'Magic Pints' bag, which will contain four pints of excess cask ale and comes in a reusable bag, for £5.75 through the Too Good To Go App for collection at an allocated time. In two weeks, the initiative has saved more than 2,500 pints of cask ale from being wasted, reports Morning Advertiser.

New immersive F1 concept announced

Adam Breeden, co-founder of Puttshack, Flight Club, Bounce, All Star Lanes and Hijingo, has announced plans to launch an immersive F1 racing concept in the on-trade. Created for a mass audience via a unique global licence agreement with Formula 1, as many as 30 venues will be rolled out worldwide in the next five years, reports Pub & Bar. A conditional lease has already been agreed with Landsec to launch the new concept at One New Change in the City of London at the end of this year.
