Initiative to provide operators access to qualified advice launched

A scheme to provide pub operators with accredited and qualified advisors to help with pubco negotiations has been launched by the British Institute of Innkeeping. The initiative aims to ensure operators are able to tap into a credible source of independent, expert and most importantly, qualified advice across a range of sectors, advises Morning Advertiser. The BII said it was essential that vital small businesses get independent, expert advice as they face critical decisions, especially with major commercial lifecycle events.

Hope for Christmas bookings

Pubs and bars received a much-needed boost last week, following the World Health Organisation announcement that cases of the Covid-19 variant Omicron appear to be 'mild', reports Pub & Bar. Anecdotal evidence gathered by the hospitality industry since the variant emerged suggests there were cancellations in direct response to Omicron's emergence. However, according to UKHospitality, the British Institute of Innkeeping and the British Beer & Pub Association, latest feedback from operators points to a slowing of cancellations, with many people determined to go ahead with Christmas parties.

NTIA calls for Night Time Advisors to be appointed in every major city

A trade body representing late-night venues is calling for Night Time Advisors to be appointed in every major city to help the sector recover from the pandemic. The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) said having representatives championing the industry to local authorities was the "only way" for it to recover to pre-pandemic levels, reports The Caterer. The UK's night time economy was worth £112.8b in 2019, according to NTIA research, but the forced closure of venues during the pandemic has seen the sector lose almost a third of its nightclubs and around 90,000 jobs.

M&J Seafood initiatives help caterers to source sustainable fish

M&J Seafood, part of the Sysco Specialty Group, has updated its information for chefs and caterers so that they know which seafood is currently rated five (fish to avoid) by the Marine Conservation Society, advises Craft Guild of Chefs. Sarah Phillips, senior category manager at M&J Seafood, said: "We know that keeping on top of what is under threat, and what isn't, can be confusing for caterers, which is why as soon as we are made aware that a species is rated five, we let our customers know, and stop selling it immediately."

And Finally...

There's another place to be added to London's quirky drinking spots. Battersea Power Station's Control Room, where technicians would send out electricity across London, is being turned into a bar. Opening next year, The bar will be modern and contemporary in its decor, but keeping some remnants of its industrial character from the 1950s advises My London.
