UKHospitality call on the government to help move away from single-use plastic

UKHospitality is urging the government to support hospitality businesses as they move away from single-use plastics, ahead of a proposed ban next year, reports Pub & Bar. The trade body is backing a planned April 2023 ban on single-use plastics, but wants to see government support as the sector moves to alternative, sustainable materials for items such as drinks, forks, plates and bowls. UKHospitality's call came as it responded to a Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs consultation document on proposals to ban 'some commonly littered single-use plastic items'.

Admiral market analyst Roberto Rivero said: "Soaring energy prices, labour shortages and the rising cost of raw materials are pushing up input costs for businesses which, in turn, is putting upward pressure on prices."

The group is the latest casual dining brand to trial a change in name after Frankie & Benny's revealed last year that its Basildon branch was dropping Benny's from the name, shortening it to just Frankie's, reports The Caterer.
