Robinsons acquires Marston's site in Cheshire

Robinsons has announced the acquisition of a new pub in the heart of Cheshire. Hartford Hall in Hartford sees the Robinsons managed pub portfolio grow to 28 properties, taking the total licensed premises to over 250 venues across north Wales and the north west of England, reports Pub & Bar. "The acquisition of Hartford Hall is a very important part of our long-term growth plans for our managed pub estate, to secure and develop iconic pubs in exceptional locations," says William Robinson, joint managing director at Robinsons.

Rise in UK hotel room rates outpace inflation

According to data from RSM Hotels Tracker, hotel room rates have increased by 13 per cent for the year to February 2023, beating the rate of inflation at 10.4 per cent. The data, produced by Hotstats and analysed by RSM UK, shows that average daily rates (ADRs) of occupied rooms have increased from £121.74 (January) to £128.94 (February) in the UK and from £185.43 to £196.26 in London. UK hotel occupancy rates were up from 56.1 per cent in January to 64.3 per cent in February, and increased from 57.7 per cent to 63.8 per cent in London. Occupancy levels are yet to reach pre-pandemic volumes of 69.6 per cent (UK) and 69.8 per cent (London) in February 2020, advises Boutique Hotel News. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) also rose from £68.24 (January) to £82.97 (February) in the UK, and from £107.03 to £125.31 in London - a jump from pre-pandemic years. Gross operating profits of UK hotels were up nearly seven per cent (24.4 per cent) and in London, up by six per cent (31.6 per cent).

Alcohol-free restaurant group Coco to open third site

Alcohol-free restaurant group Coco is to launch its third site next month in London's Canary Wharf, advises Big Hospitality. Coco Canary Wharf will be the group's second location in the capital and will sit on West India Quay's North Dock. The c. 5,000 sq. ft. site will have an emphasis on outdoor dining with two terrace areas each holding 100 covers featuring alongside 50 cover indoor dining room.

Almost 60% surge in pubs shutting for good this year

The rate of pubs being demolished or redeveloped increased by almost 60% during the first three months of the year as energy bills continue to batter the sector. More than 150 pubs have disappeared for good from English and Welsh communities over the first three months of 2023, according to analysis of government data by commercial real estate intelligence firm Altus Group. The data showed that the overall number of pubs in England and Wales, including those vacant and being offered to let, dropped to 39,634 at the end of the first quarter, with 153 pubs closing for good compared with the 39,787 pubs recorded in England and Wales at the end of 2022, reports The Caterer.

Leisure Resorts sells Yorkshire holiday home site

Leisure Resorts has sold the five-star holiday home site Rivers Edge Park in the Yorkshire Dales to UK Leisure Parks for an undisclosed sum. Property Week report that the 29.8 acres site on Bentham Road in Ingleton, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, has 190 caravan pitches, 174 for vacation and 16 for residential use.
