Stonegate mulls £1b sale of 1,000 pubs

Stonegate is believed to be accelerating plans for a £1b sale of more than 1,000 pubs. Over the weekend, the Sunday Times reported Britain's biggest pub company is looking to offload roughly a quarter of its 4,300-strong pub portfolio in an effort to reduce debt. It suggested that senior executives at Stonegate Group have already held discussions with potential advisers to explore options for the owner of the Slug & Lettuce and Be At One chains, which has collected debts of over £3b following its merger with rival chain Ei at the start of the pandemic. According to the Sunday Times, the 1,034 pubs believed to be up for sale are referred to internally as Stonegate's 'platinum' collection, valued as high as £1b, writes The Caterer.

UK restaurant sector to grow to £19.6bn by 2028.

The UK restaurant sector is forecast to grow at a modest 1% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next three years, reaching a value of £19.6bn in 2028. This year, the market is expected to grow in value by 0.8%, reaching £19bn. However, while growth has been achieved compared to the previous year, the figure remains 1.8% below the value of the market in 2019. Restaurant Online reports that the latest figures have been revealed in Lumina Intelligence's new UK Restaurant Market Report, which shows that the current growth in the market is being driven by modest price inflation rather than volume recovery, as fragile consumer confidence, rising staff costs and business-rate cuts temper gains.
