EBH Holdings has acquired nightclub and spirits brand Mahiki, with plans for an international relaunch, writes The Caterer. Mahiki opened as a nightclub in 2006 in London's Mayfair, however the venue closed in 2021. At the time, the company said it was seeking a new location. The nightclub was known for its high-profile guests, which included 'global stars, royals and tastemakers'. Mahiki Limited was placed in creditors' voluntary liquidation in April 2022. EBH Holdings has now conducted an 'extensive and deeply forensic' period of due diligence, resulting in its acquisition of the brand. In the coming weeks, EBH Holdings will implement a recovery and redevelopment plan. The relaunch will re-establish the brand in key international destinations.
Multi-site pub group Urban Pubs & Bars is set to reopen an 'iconic' Victorian pub following a £1m investment, reports Morning Advertiser. St John's Tavern in Archway will open its doors again on Friday 31 October with a launch celebration due to take place on Friday 7 November. The pub's new look aims to keep its character but with a refreshed designed, updated garden area and extended lounge. The refurbishment included a major food focus as part of the relaunch.
Mitchells & Butlers has lodged plans to create a boutique hotel operating under its Innkeeper's Collection brand above one of its Leeds city centre pubs. The plans, which were submitted last month, involve converting the floors above the Nation of Shopkeepers pub on the corner of Cookridge Street and Great George Street, with proposals outlining the creation of a 42-bedroom hotel. A new reception would be created on the first floor, writes The Caterer.
Sticks'n'Sushi will open a restaurant in Manchester's Spinningfields area this spring, taking its total number of UK sites to 17, advises Restaurant Online. The launch follows closely on the heels of the Danish-owned group's Glasgow opening and marks the next step in its northern expansion. The two-storey restaurant will accommodate 246 guests across a ground-floor dining area, a mezzanine level and a large L-shaped outdoor terrace. "Manchester is an important milestone in our UK growth strategy," says Sticks'n'Sushi Group CEO Andreas Karlsson. Last year, the McWin Capital Partners-owned group secured a £22m loan from digital bank OakNorth to support its future growth in the UK.
Punch Pubs & Co has announced its trading update for the 52-week period to 11 August 2024, reports Pub & Bar. The operator of 1,258 pubs generated a total revenue of £324.3m, compared to £313.5m in the prior year. Underlying EBITDA for the pub estates (Management Partnership, Leased & Tenanted and Laine) before central costs increased by £11.2m to £117.3m, up 11%. EBITDA for the period was £89.1m. Approximately one third of Punch's EBITDA profit came from rental income, predominantly on inflation linked 5-year tenancy agreements. During the year, the group acquired 36 pubs at a cost of £25.2m, including SDLT and fees. The acquisitions have been funded from available cash resources and drawing on its revolving credit facility. It has also identified the next tranche of pubs to convert to its Management Partnership model, having identified an additional population of up to 70 pubs that would be suitable for conversion.
Accor has confirmed it is considering an initial public offering (IPO) for its lifestyle brand Ennismore, advises Boutique Hotelier. Founded in 2011 by Sharan Pasricha, the company operates more than 190 hotels across the globe under 16 lifestyle brands including The Hoxton, Mondrian, 25hours Hotels, Hyde and Morgans Originals. In 2021, Ennismore formed a joint venture with Accor and the following year, sold a stake to a consortium of Qatari investors in a deal that valued Ennismore at more than $2.3bn (or £1.7bn). The latest filings from Accor revealed its board of directors had unanimously approved plans to evaluate a possible stock market listing for the business. If the public offering goes ahead, Accor intends to retain overall control of the group and support its growth.
Heineken UK has renamed pubs across the country as 'The Office' to spotlight the silver lining of workers being back at their desks. Heineken said it was aiming to spotlight the value of catching up with colleagues to socialise after work, reports Pub & Bar.
