Situated in the heart of Whitstable in Kent, one of the UK's best loved seaside towns and famous for its native oysters, Samphire has been sold on behalf of respected restauranteur, George Begg, who founded the business 20 years ago, having decided to settle on the Kent coast with his family.
A much loved and highly successful neighbourhood bistro, Samphire trades from an attractive period former shop building in the High Street and is a cornerstone of the town's vibrant food and drink scene.
In a sale that attracted significant interest and multiple offers, the property has been acquired by another respected local pub and restaurant operator, Jim Cleaver, of Beach Street Restaurants.
Beach Street started in 2005 as a neighbourhood gem with 81 Beach Street in Deal, and has grown into a thriving group of five stunning venues across South East Kent. Samphire will now be the latest addition to its portfolio.
Senior Associate at Fleurets, Simon Bland, commented: "This sale highlights that the market is very much alive when special opportunities like this come along. Having lived in Whitstable myself, I expected the level of attention the sale attracted and it's obviously pleasing to help a business that has been a labour of love begin a new chapter in such good hands."
Jim Cleaver, Managing Director, Beach Street Restaurants, said: "We're delighted to welcome Samphire and its fabulous team into the Beach Street Restaurants family. It's a much-loved Whitstable venue that perfectly complements our collection of high-quality, individual pubs & restaurants along the beautiful Kent Coast. Samphire will continue to run just as it always has - with the same great food, service, and atmosphere that guests know and love - and we can't wait to build on its success as part of the Whitstable community."
Samphire's founder, George Begg, who has run the restaurant for over two decades, added: "Samphire has always been more than just a restaurant to me, it's been a home, a family and a way of life. Hospitality was always at the heart of what we strived to do, more than just serving food, it was about creating a sense of warmth, inclusion and good times. It's been a privilege to be a part of the Whitstable community for 20 years and I'm so grateful to all of our staff, customers and fellow traders for all their support over the years.
"Whilst selling was a hugely emotional decision, I am looking forward to more family time and new ventures. Dee, Holly and the rest of the team will still be there to welcome you and keep the Samphire spirit alive under the capable hands of the new owners."
